A few words about myself
Tiffany Muharrem, Bsc (Hons) Reg. MBACP
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with a BSc degree in Integrative Counselling from Roehampton University. I help people experiencing a range of life difficulties including depression and anxiety, panic disorder, stress, bereavement, bullying, suicidal thoughts, anger issues, social anxiety, feeling sad, low self-esteem, relationship issues and unresolved childhood issues.
Sometimes it can be difficult to express ‘real’ emotions as we can often feel guilt or shame - we may even fear disapproval from others. Everybody experiences negative emotions like anger, guilt, jealously or depression and there is nothing ‘bad’ about these feelings, in themselves. They are just your response to certain situations.
My aim as a counsellor is to form a relationship with you that reflects the individual nature of your personality and allows you to work at your own pace. Having a regular time and space within which difficulties can be safely and openly explored without fear of judgement, criticism or embarrassment, can be the key to enabling change and development.
I am trained as an integrative counsellor which is considered to be one of the most effective forms of counselling. It combines a variety of approaches to suit your individual needs including psychoanalysis, person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). My aim in working with you is to provide a warm and non-judgmental space where you can freely express and explore your thoughts and feelings, helping you to improve your awareness of yourself. I also like to work creatively, using methods to help clients communicate when words have become too difficult.
My experience includes working for the NHS at a GP surgery counselling adults with depression and anxiety, anger issues, social anxiety, low self-esteem, work stress, panic attacks and drug/alcohol addictions.
I've also worked as a school counsellor at a secondary school in the London borough of Lambeth - counselling students struggling with bullying, exam stress, self-harm, sexuality, identity issues and those on the autistic spectrum. I like to integrate some creative arts approaches with my younger clients including play therapy and art therapy, as I believe this allows a deeper level of understanding to unfold.
I hold a certificate in spiritual healing which serves to support personal growth and looks at working with stress management through breath work, creative visualisations, meditation, positive thought and colour therapy. I also have a diploma in mindfulness and I run a weekly mindfulness group which can help to relieve stress, lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain and improve sleep.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I abide by strict codes of ethics.
Initially, we will meet for an assessment session to explore how we can work together and discuss your therapy goals. If you decide to commit to counselling we will meet on a weekly basis either on a short-term or open ended basis. I am always happy to have a chat over the phone to discuss your needs and any questions you might have. So please don't hesitate to call me on 07948 262677 to book an appointment or send me an email.
